Teaching

Over the last 15 years, I have taught courses covering reporting, video production and research methods at three universities (University of Tennessee, The Ohio State University, and Ball State University). My teaching has won numerous awards, including the AEJMC Great Ideas for Teachings competition and the UT College of Communication and Information teaching award. Additionally, the work produced by students in my classes has been honored in various ways. For example, short films produced in my documentary video production course have been selected for more than 20 screenings at local and regional film festivals. My students have also won SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards and awards at the BEA Festival of Media Arts. In addition to working with students in my courses, I regularly serve on thesis, creative project, and dissertation committees and work with undergraduate and graduate students through my Land Grant Films initiative.
